Chasing the Storm

Project Description:
Chasing the Storm is the first documentary that I filmed while attending the Illinois Institute of Art. The requirements were simple; choose a topic that we enjoied or wanted to learn more about and find at least one credible person to interview on the subject. I enjoy severe weather and the art of storm chasing so I decided to do my documentary on that. I knew storm chasers from the Meteorology department at the College of DuPage and scheduled a day to meet with them for interviews. Unfortunately only one chaser was available, Karl Schulze, within my window to complete the project as the others were out on a chase at the time. In preperation for the meeting I came up with several common questions and myths about storm chasing and tornadoes in general that I was going to ask. The interview took place in one of the schools weather labs which provided a great backdrop. All of the storm chase footage was also given to me by the college to use for this film.

This project was shot using a Panasonic DVX100, a Lowell Light kit, and a wireless lavalier microphone then edited in Final Cut Pro with the beginning title sequence done in Photoshop and Aftereffects.
